It’s March, and that means spring is right around the corner!

I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to see tulips blossoming, birds chirping, and an opportunity to open my windows to allow the fresh air to circulate throughout the home and rid it of the stagnant energy, germs, and dust particles that’s been building up over the winter.

Spring is about rebirth, renewal, and with the change in seasons, there’s no better time than now to clean the home to freshen it up!

Now, like most, you’re probably busy and don’t have hours a day, so the thought of spring cleaning makes you roll your eyes. Sound about right?

But what if I told you that you don’t need hours a day to spring clean your home? It’s true! If you take a few minutes daily, you can tackle the spring cleaning to-do list and be on your way to creating memories with your loved ones.

Maintenance Cleaning

To keep your home tidy, you can do simple maintenance cleaning tasks that only take a few minutes of your time, such as washing dishes or loading and unloading the dishwasher. Running a load of laundry and folding it. Wiping down the kitchen counters, empty small wastebaskets, organize mail, organize and put things away, to name a few.

The idea is not to overcomplicate or do tasks that take up a significant amount of your time but allow you to tidy up the home so that the unkemptness doesn’t pile up throughout the week.

Spring Cleaning

When it comes to spring cleaning, most tend to do a deep cleaning of your home, which we recommend to remove any germs, bacteria, and dust particles built up over the winter months.

A suggestion is to choose one area of the home to focus on each week. By doing so, it will give you some breathing room, so to speak, conserve energy, focus on a task at hand, and allow you more time with your loved ones.

The Pomodoro technique is perfect to use when you’re tight on time or want to work in spurts. With this technique, you choose a task, work on the task at hand for 25-mins, then take a 5-min break and repeat the process. Every four Pomodoro cycles take a longer 15-30-min break.

You can choose how many cycles you wish to do daily, but even if you choose one, you can easily do the daily maintenance cleaning in addition to one or two spring cleaning items.

What should you focus on for spring cleaning? In short, you want to clean, disinfect, and sanitize areas of your home that are often neglected, but if you’re looking for a checklist to help you, take a look at The Ultimate Room-by-Room Spring Cleaning Checklist from Taste of Home for guidance.

Decluttering and Organizing

Out with the old and in with the new! As the seasons change, it’s a good idea to rotate your wardrobe, outwear, garage tools or small equipment, etc.

With the deep cleaning associated with spring cleaning, we recommend using the Pomodoro technique here too. As you work through each room of your home, choose a decluttering and organizing take (or two) to complete daily within your chosen Pomodor time slots.

Working in small spurts may seem like it’ll take you longer to get your home cleaned, decluttered, and organized, but actually, that’s not true.

Working in shorter spurts provides removes distractions and allows for more focused attention, increases productivity, and makes it easier to get started because you’ve broken up a large job into smaller parts, making it more manageable.

In April, we’ll be kicking off a free decluttering challenge where you will take a few minutes to declutter your home with us each day. The daily prompts will be available on a printable PDF [Coming soon!] and on our Facebook Page. We encourage you to join the fun and allow us to help you tidy up the home with you.
